I began making jewelry in 2003 and this innocent hobby quickly became an obsession. I had found a creative outlet that built on my interest in color and texture and my natural ability to pull seemingly dissociated items together into a coordinated presentation. This latter skill I also rely on frequently as a medical researcher at the University of Pittsburgh. My friends and co-workers frequently requested to see the fruits of my labors and these informal showings grew into sales. While the sale of my jewelry provided the ability to expand my hobby, I also saw that I had an opportunity to turn my creativity into something that would help others as well. Thus, I made the decision to contribute the proceeds of my sales to charity. Since I made that decision, I have been joined by other talented artists who are also committed to contributing their creativity to worthy causes. Each purchase from KST Creations supports one of the organizations below.

University of Pittsburgh Scholarship:

The Evelyn H. Wei Memorial Award in Epidemiology: Evelyn Wei, a University of Pittsburgh researcher was struck by a vehicle while walking her dog near her Regent Square home in 2004. A law suit filed by Evelyn's parents has resulted in the installation of a traffic light at the location of the accident (read Pittsburgh Post Gazette article) and the establishment of the Evelyn H. Wei Memorial Award in Epidemiology. The mission of the scholarship is to support promising students in the Graduate School of Public Health Department of Epidemiology, where Evelyn was an alumnus. This scholarship provides a way to continue Evelyn's work through the work of others. Twice per year on the first Friday of May and the first Friday of December, KST Creations organizes a fundraiser to benefit this fund.(read University Times article)
